Sandstone driveway, Borehamwood

Tarmac taken up in Borehamwood and replaced with sandstone slabs, a block edge and pointed joints.

Before and after of a Borehamwood driveway, from tarmac to sandstone paving with a block edge.
Before and after. Photographs from the original Hertfordshire Garden Landscapes portfolio.

The brief was a frontage that added something to the house, and an end to the old tarmac. Sandstone paving was the surface chosen.

Excavation came first. Hardcore was laid and compacted, a block edge set the outline, the sandstone slabs went down, and the joints were pointed.

On a drive the base decides whether the slabs are still level after the first winter. The visible paving is the last layer, not the first.

Service: Hard landscaping. Town: Borehamwood.
