John Mason’s garden

Sandstone, new fences, block edging, a rear deck and fresh turf in St Albans, now on a monthly visit.

Before and after of a St Albans garden rebuilt with patio, fencing, lawn and decking.
Before and after. Photographs from the original Hertfordshire Garden Landscapes portfolio.

The St Albans plot had a small patio and a lawn that was half dead.

That lawn came up and the ground was dug out for sandstone paving. New fence panels went in with the patio. Block paving forms the edge between the new surface and the grass, and a deck was added at the back for summer. Handrails can be built where a deck needs them.

Lawn and planting followed. The soil already there was poor, so seeding topsoil was brought in before the turf and the new plants.

The garden has stayed on a monthly maintenance visit since the build.

Service: Low maintenance garden design. Town: St Albans.
